The annual pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia (also known as Hajj) will occur on Aug. 9-14; the exact dates, however depend on the local lunar sightings. The Hajj is one of the mandatory Five Pillars of Islam and every Muslim is required to perform the pilgrimage at least once in their lifetime. Around 2.5 million Muslims are expected to partake in the Hajj this year, posing security challenges for Saudi Arabia.
These days, the world has become smaller with the rise of technology. Thanks to the recent technological advances, ease of access to information and people has never been easier. The internet has made it possible to explore the world and travel overseas to foreign countries. While there is a lot of good that comes out of international travel, we can’t overlook the importance of travel security.
The clashes began on the 3rd of May, 2019 after two Israeli soldiers were injured and four Palestinians were killed during the weekly protests at the Gaza-Israel border. The clashes entailed hundreds of rockets being launched from Gaza and numerous more targeted by Israeli Forces within the Gaza Strip. Israel also increased its military presence near the border in response. Eventually a ceasefire agreement went into effect on May 6th, 2019. On Thursday morning April 11th, conflicting reports had surfaced, some claiming that there has been a military coup in Sudan forcing the Sudanese president Omar Al-Bashir to step down, and other stated that the Sudanese President Omar Al-Bashir willingly stepped down, following months of anti-government protests. According to reports, celebrations are already under way in Sudan as protesters have taken to the streets, waiting for the official announcement to be made.
