Israel evicts 700 Palestinians from East Jerusalem

On November 21, 2018, Israel's High Court of Justice rejected a petition filed by residents of Silwan neighborhood on Wednesday, authorizing the right-wing Ateret Cohanim organization to continue evacuating 700 Palestinians from East Jerusalem's Silwan. Palestinian house deeds were transferred to the Benvenisti Trust by Israel’s Justice Ministry in 2002 claiming it purchased the land in the late 1800s to settle Jews arriving in Palestine from Yemen.

Trump Administration doubles down on Palestinian aid cuts

In a dramatic move, the Trump administration has reportedly decided to end all funding to UNRWA. The UN agency responsible for Palestinian humanitarian assistance. According to reports, the decision to cut all aid to UN’s Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees was made at a meeting earlier this month between Trump’s adviser and son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

The Gaza Strip after the March of Return

Since the 42nd commemoration of the Palestinian Land Day that began on Saturday March 30th, Palestinians from the Gaza Strip launched a 46-day long campaign to mainly demand the right of return of Palestinian refugees to Israeli controlled areas. The campaign was also meant to protest the transfer of the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Nakbeh.

The security situation in Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque was elevated since July 14th 2017, when Israeli forces closed Al-Aqsa Mosque for two days after armed clashes erupted between three Palestinians and Israeli police in Al-Aqsa Mosque Compound 0.35 km SE of the Old City / Jerusalem. Which led to the death of the three Palestinians and two Israeli police officers.

October 2016 major incidents

Tension that started in the Occupied Palestinian Territories in mid-September 2015, intensified in October and was portrayed by pervasive clashes with ISF, along with almost daily attacks on Israelis. As the graph indicates, in comparison with October 2016, Palestinian death toll was significantly higher in October 2015. 64 Palestinians were killed, while in 2016, 9 Palestinians were killed. The Israeli death toll in 2015 was also higher as 10 Israelis were killed as opposed to 3 in 2016.
