RedCrow’s CEO Hussein Nasser Eddin and COO Laila Akel have been hard at work leading the company’s development and building out their portfolio of services. For their contributions in innovative security technology they were honored with new recognitions. Here’s an update on the startup’s top 5 recognitions from July 2017 – May 2018.
1. RedCrow Wins Forbes Under 30 Competition for Palestinian Startups
May 6 – 9, 2018, RedCrow’s co-founders joined entrepreneurs from the U.S., Europe and Asia in Rawabi City in Palestine to pitch an all-start line-up of VCs at Forbes’ annual celebration of entrepreneurship. The event, which included networking and educational events, culminated with a pitch competition where RedCrow brought home the winning recognition for Forbes Top Under 30 Palestinian Startup, a huge accolade in a highly competitive field of brilliant entrepreneurs who participated. As a next step, RedCrow will head to Amsterdam September 5 – 7, 2018 to participate in first-ever Forbes Under 30 Summit Europe, where 300 influential changemakers will gather to share startup solutions for global change.
2. RedCrow is recognized as a Top 10 Start-Up by the MIT Enterprise Forum, Pan Arab Region Competition
Just a few weeks prior, on April 19, 2018, RedCrow joined the Massachusetts Institute for Technology Enterprise Forum (MITEF) of the Pan Arab Region at the 11th edition of the Arab Startup Competition, a competition “designed to support and celebrate innovation in the Arab world.” RedCrow was honored to join more than 400 fellow entrepreneurs, investors, media representatives and public figures at the event to share their experience in innovation. Laila and Hussein walked away with high-level training, hundreds of new connections and the honor of being recognized among MIT Enterprise Forum Top 10 Start-Up.
3. RedCrow is Announced as a Recipient of the UNICEF Innovation Fund for Open Source Technology Solutions
On December 8, 2017, RedCrow was announced as a recipient of the UNICEF Innovation Fund, which “invests in technology start-ups from developing markets that are working on open source solutions to improve children’s lives.” With UNICEF’s investment, RedCrow is one of the first to develop and integrate Arabic Natural Language Processing (NLP) to the incident-reporting platform. Currently, RedCrow’s work centers on adding features that can classify data into different categories (i.e., security, politics and crime); it is currently labeling this data for machine learning. Planned developments also include identifying different Arabic dialects and the countries they belong to, enabling RedCrow to efficiently accelerate the system and enter new markets in the Middle East and North Africa region. 4. RedCrow Wins Top Prize in “Get in the Ring” StartUp Competition in Palestine
On November 13, 2017, RedCrow competed against hundreds of Palestinian startups in the annual “Get in the Ring” pitch competition where entrepreneurs battled face to face in a ring for the #1 “best pitch” prize. RedCrow nailed it securing the #1 slot, while simultaneously winning over new fans and investors, and getting global exposure for the innovative product.
5. RedCrow Completes PeaceTech Accelerator, an International Program Providing Mentorship and Training for Peace-Focused Technology Initiatives
Supported by C5 Capital Limited and Amazon Web Services, RedCrow was a participant in the second cohort of the Peacetech Accelerator program held at the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) in Washington, DC, July – September 2017. The Accelerator is the first major international program powered by cloud innovation and decided to scaling startups from around the world. Hussein and Laila joined a handful of start-ups for the eight-week program, all chosen for their ability to produce innovative technologies that manage, mitigate, predict or prevent conflict and promote sustainable peace.
